Technician (fixed term)

Location: Sutton Bonington

Salary: £17,399 to £20,624 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for the above post based within the School of Biosciences at the Sutton Bonington Campus.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop a technical career to support both teaching & research activities primarily within the Nutritional Sciences subject area of the School.

The role holder will provide technical support to the Clinical Skills, Dietetics and the food/feedstuff analysis facility, learning specific skills such as fat extraction, energy determination, protein and fatty acid analysis, salt and nitrate determination.

There will be opportunities to gain a good working knowledge of dietetics via participation in and demonstration of dietetics practical classes & to assist senior staff in carrying out human intervention research studies.

Other duties will include:

Carrying out basic equipment maintenance, restocking of consumables, preparation of stock reagents, assisting with setting up and clearing away classes as required & general laboratory housekeeping.

Candidates should demonstrate their interest in Nutrition & Dietetics & their enthusiasm to train further as a specialist technician in this area.

Candidate should have a minimum of two A-Levels in relevant subjects or equivalent vocational qualifications (NVQ City & Guild) plus some relevant technical/scientific experience.


Considerable work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role.
