Centre Manager

Fixed Term position until 31 August 2022

We have an exciting opportunity for a Centre Manager to work at the Data Science Institute with the founding Director Professor Yike Guo and his team.

Imperial College have recently signed a five year agreement with HNA to establish the HNA Research Centre for Future Data Ecosystems.

The aim of the Centre is to promote theory and technology development and innovation in the field of data economy and it is expected that the Centre will:

  • build the infrastructure for future data economy
  • innovate and develop data capital and data products
  • research and apply technologies in artificial intelligence

The Centre will generate and be responsible for the management of interdisciplinary research projects across a spectrum of issues where data economy, AI and Blockchain projects. The post-holder will be central to the effective management of these programmes and in building confident and trusting relationships with the funders and researchers involved.

The overall purpose of this role is to lead the operational and research project management of the Centre. The position will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Centre and ensure the research projects are delivered such as to optimise their successful exploitation, whilst also contributing to the long term strategic direction of the partnership.

The role will be exciting and multifaceted. The post holder will play a crucial role in the establishment of the new Centre at Imperial College. As such, the post holder will be expected to undertake multiple streams of work, including coordination of research projects (in a managerial capacity) and the monitoring and capturing of best practices. Working with academics from across the College’s Faculties and researchers at HNA, they will be able to contribute to the writing of compelling research projects and their successful delivery. Exceptional communication skills will be required as the post holder will be responsible for communicating with senior HNA and College management, maintaining the strong relationship with HNA through establishing excellent links between the two organisations. They will also be responsible for managing the £3m budget, ensuring that the funding is distributed across multiple projects and maximised to achieve the strategic aims of the Centre. The post holder will be able to actively contribute to the research direction and outcomes of the Centre, by working with academic staff at both HNA and Imperial to ensure world-class research results.

The post will be based at the South Kensington campus. All applicants must be fluent in English.
