We wish to appoint the first Shelby Cullom Davis Professor in the Department of Philosophy, within the School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies. The successful candidate will be an outstanding scholar of international standing in philosophy. He or she will be expected to have a range of interests which strengthen and complement those within the Department and make an outstanding contribution to the field’s advancement through published work. The successful candidate will also have a proven track record of securing significant grant funding and leading high quality externally funded research projects, or be able to demonstrate potential for success in future applications for such projects. He or she will be expected to represent the University of St Andrews in the UK and international academic communities.

Candidates will hold a doctorate in philosophy and will be expected to be capable of teaching the subject to Honours and postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds. The primary criteria for appointment will be evidence of an internationally recognised research record, a clear programme of anticipated research activity for the coming years, and a significant research funding record (or potential for such).
