Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2 years fixed-term) in catalytic breakdown of molecular nitrogen by rare earth surfaces.

We are looking to recruit a postdoctoral research fellow to support our research on the MacDiarmid Institute project “catalytic breakdown of molecular nitrogen by rare earth surfaces”. This is a 24-month fixed term position (1.0 FTE) for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The applicant will be working within the Ultra High Vacuum Facility in SCPS under the supervision of Dr Franck Natali, in collaboration with Ass. Prof. Ben Ruck, Em. Prof. Joe Trodahl. The PDF will be directly involved in all aspects of the project, and will in particular take the lead on the experimental component of the proposal. Other important tasks, which will be carried out under the PI’s guidance, will be the training and supervision PhD students, and the writing up of the results of our work.

Applicants should have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, or related fields, and the following:

  • Background in ultra-high vacuum technology and thin film deposition
  • Demonstrated experience with thin films characterisation, in situ during deposition and ex situ characterisation
  • Strong background in solid state physics and/or physical chemistry
  • Experience with synchrotron radiation sources for characterization and spectroscopic studies
  • Experience in writing scientific articles. Good track record of high-impact publications in the areas described above
