Platforms and Systems Engineer

We are seeking a full-time Platform and Systems Engineer to join the Oxford Robotics Institute at the Department of Engineering Science (Central Oxford). The post is funded by Programme Grant. This is a fixed-term post until 28 February 2020.

We are looking for a professional platform and systems engineer to accelerate the impact of our research into domains such as autonomous cars, legged robots, drones, space exploration and nuclear inspection. To fulfil our ambition we need robust, well maintained, well documented, well tested, well managed and ambitious platform development. You will work in a team maintaining, developing and deploying our robotics platforms in multiple domains - especially on and off-road, aerial inspection, automated surveying and plant inspection. You will work closely with researchers to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the platforms across domains and write/modify code in a range of languages to integrate with our hardware platforms to develop complete end-to-end systems.

A degree or higher level qualification in engineering, physics, computer science or related subject is essential as well as experience of systems engineering involving the coupling or embedding of large software projects to hardware. In addition, you must have experience in C++/Java/Python/Matlab and be familiar with specifying systems in the electrical or mechanical domains. You will be a clear communicator and have the ability to prioritise a busy workload. You will have demonstrable hand-on project experience, working as part of a small team and creating designs that fulfils a functional specification on time, on budget.
