The School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen is a research-intensive academic unit engaged in fundamental and applied research across the five Engineering disciplines. 85% of the School’s research output was ranked as world leading or internationally excellent in the 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2014).

This is the second lecturer position, in the ongoing initiative to strengthen the School in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering discipline. In particular we are seeking an academic with abilities to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of power systems, power electronics, smart grids, control engineering, electrical systems for renewable energy, and the design of electrical and electronic systems.

It is expected that the research activities of the appointee will be associated with the Aberdeen HVDC Research Centre, which has a strong research portfolio related to DC transmission systems, Flexible AC Transmission systems, power systems modelling and control, integration of renewables and power electronics. The external research income for the centre is around £3.5 million over the last 6-7 years, funded from European and UK research councils, but also EU/UK transmission operators and power industry. The centre has a substantial power electronics laboratory with multiple converters up to 30kW and 1500V and it is one of few Scottish research centers equipped with RTDS (Real Time Digital Simulator).

For the new Lecturer post in Electrical Engineering we seek an individual who will relish the opportunity to contribute to the development of research in the strong research team and innovative teaching in established Electrical and Electronic Engineering programmes. The appointee will be a dynamic individual with clear ability for leading research in his/her field, as evidenced by a track record of publications commensurate with career stage. The appointee will have developed plans for future research with good prospects for external funding. He/she will have excellent communication skills and the desire and ability to teach well across the undergraduate years, aiming to provide students with the best possible experience and ensuring continuing accreditation for EEE programs.

For appointments made at Lecturer Level, salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 salary scale £39,992- £47,722) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
