Vitae leads the professional development of researchers and is a part of The Careers Research & Advisory Centre(CRAC) Limited, an educational charity based in Cambridge. We seek a talented professional development manager to join our team to help build our UK and international business in Higher Education, by providing excellent services to our programmed leaders and clients across the world. The post holder will have experience in project management, and be highly organised with a capacity for multi-tasking and a focus on project delivery, with good team working skills, and energy, vision and enthusiasm to achieve successful outcomes.

Job Purpose: Play an active role in CRAC and Vitae's position as the world-leading innovator and thought leader for the professional development, leadership, and training and development of researchers and researcher developers. Management and delivery of higher education engagement, community development and projects and programmes. Contribute to membership recruitment and retention.

Main Responsibilites

  • Manage and deliver a broad range of projects related to the professional and career development of researchers in higher education, including postgraduate researchers and research staff
  • Apply and develop knowledge and experience of HEIs to facilitate the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables
  • Develop project proposals, define project tasks, manage resources, plan and schedule project timelines, track project deliverables
  • Monitor and report on progress to stakeholders including the CRAC Management Team, Advisory Groups and wider community
  • Provide project impact evaluations and assessment of results, and prepare draft reports
  • Communicate effectively and manage relationships with external project sponsors, stakeholders and partners to develop Vitae relationships, networks and business
  • Deliver presentations and training if needed
  • Provide support to external advisory groups
  • Liaise with internal colleagues to prepare and disseminate communications

Person Specification and Experience

Knowledge and Experience        

  • Experience of working with universities in the UK and internationally in relation to researcher, staff or career development
  • Experience of training and career development activity, and/or research in HE education or careers
  • Excellent proven project management skills, preferably recognised through a professional qualification
  • Experience of successfully delivering a wide variety of projects on time and on budget
  • Confidence and authority to build trust and respect with internal and external stakeholders
  • Track record of growing business following successful delivery of projects
  • Knowledge of research skills


  • Excellent project leadership and management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Focus on detail and delivery to time, budget and quality
  • Ability to work diplomatically and effectively with external stakeholders
  • Appropriate IT skills
  • A pro-active individual with good interpersonal skills to work autonomously, set personal objectives and work proactively in a collaborative environment to deliver project goals
  • Ability to travel in the UK and abroad if needed


  • Ability to be flexible and to work under pressure, using sound time management and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines
