Research Systems Manager

You will be employed as a Research Systems Manager in the Research and Innovation Services Department.

The primary purpose of this role is to manage research data and information services delivered via the University’s Current Research Information System (the Research Portal). The University’s current technologies in this area include Converis from Clarivate Analytics. Relevant datasets cover areas including research outputs (publications), research data, research grants and contracts (external awards and income) and evidence of research impact.  

The role holder will be primarily responsible for delivery of Research Portal services and the development and roll-out of new applications in this area. They will provide advice, guidance and support, and will lead projects in this area. They will maintain relationships with key stakeholders in Schools, Colleges, University Research Institutes and Professional Services departments, provide advice and guidance to schools and undertake training, promotion and advocacy. The role includes managing the relationships with business owners within the University as well as other stakeholders, leading on activities relating to system upgrades and new functional releases. It also includes working with University teams tasked with reporting to senior management and the Research Excellence Framework (REF), ensuring that systems provide timely, accurate and relevant information.

The role requires liaison with University IT technical staff to scope and deliver changes to the Research Portal which may be required by the University in responding to the requirements of external stakeholders such as funders or Government. The successful candidate will also collaborate with other institutions to share best practice and manage the relationships with suppliers (e.g. in relation to areas such as technology development and common requirements for the higher education sector).  This role will also be responsible for keeping abreast of developments with all suppliers and the current state of the art. 

The role holder will lead a team with responsibilities for research systems at Cardiff, e.g. Business Objects and ORACLE Projects as well as ensuring a coordinated approach to meeting the University’s reporting requirements.
