About us

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is the main UK Government agency for funding research and postgraduate training in Engineering and the Physical Sciences, investing approximately £850 million a year.

About the role

There are currently a number of opportunities for permanent Senior Portfolio Manager Roles across EPSRC.  Senior Portfolio Managers in EPSRC cover a wide range of areas across the organisation including:

  • Developing and managing a portfolio of investments in research and postgraduate training within EPSRC Research Themes
  • Developing policies, relationships, funding opportunities and projects in relation to cross-cutting activities in support of EPSRC’s strategic plan
  • Providing support for EPSRC’s corporate strategy, governance and business planning.

As a senior Portfolio Manager you will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of EPSRC strategy
  • Lead innovation and change to deliver strategy more effectively and efficiently
  • Build partnerships that help to maximise the impact of EPSRC’s investments
  • Line-manage and/or project manage a number of colleagues
  • Provide high quality expertise and advice in your areas of responsibility, informed by the latest developments in the area, evidence and engagement with relevant external stakeholders.

About you

You will have a clear understanding of EPSRC’s strategic and delivery plans and approach to investing in research and training.

You will have strong analytical and numerical skills, including an ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data, information and other evidence.

You must have the ability to influence others and the ability to work as part of a team with colleagues across the organisation, at all levels and with a broad range of external stakeholders.

You must be willing to embrace change and help others to do the same.
