Senior Library Assistant

University of Bath - Library Services

We are seeking to fill a Senior Library Assistant vacancy based within the University Library’s Issue Desk team.

The post requires excellent customer service skills in a busy library environment and previous experience in library and customer service work is highly desirable.

Applicants should be able to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team, and provide leadership and support for other members of the Issue Desk team, including Library Assistants, Shelving and student staff.

The Issue Desk staff support a range of library work and, although primarily based at the Issue Desk, you will spend periods of time supporting the Library’s subject teams on the Subject Floors.  The role is physically demanding as you are expected to retrieve books from low baskets for processing and to manoeuvre heavy trolleys in and around working areas.

Applicants must be proficient in the use of IT systems as all Issue Desk and Library procedures require the use of software applications.

The successful applicant will join a dedicated, professional team of Library staff committed to the continual development of services to support the University’s strategy: to deliver world-class research and teaching, extend the University’s international influence, and enrich the student experience.  We understand the importance of continued professional development for all Library staff in order to achieve this, and provide programmes of local opportunities and support involvement in appropriate external activities.
