Senior Lecturer in Video Game Art

The role is to work with undergraduate & postgraduate students on Birmingham City University’s innovative and industry-led course for video game art. The Gamer Camp postgraduate course is one of the best in the UK and graduates from the programme into to forge successful careers within the industry. The Department is staffed by industry veterans who are committed to the development of the next generation of game developers and artists.

The role requires teaching contemporary video game development production techniques, art production practices, professional experience and project execution. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work with motivated, young video game developers and help them develop interactive products in a studio setting. The role will involve acting as a Product Owner on video game projects, delivering formal lectures, tutorials, student support and working with industry partners. Video Games industry partners on the course include Sony, Codemasters and Rare.     

The role is suitable for a candidate with video game development &/or professional art experience ideally (although essential) a background or experience within teaching, mentoring and supporting either students or new entrants into video game development. Potential applicants will be required to have an undergraduate degree in art or related subject and preferably post graduate qualifications allied to education, video gaming or art/design. Extensive experience of using art production tools such as Maya & ZBrush are essential and professional qualifications such as Scrum &/or Kanban certifications and experience with game engines such as Unity & Unreal are also desirable.
