Professor of Civil Engineering (79055-097)

University of Warwick - School of Engineering

The School of Engineering are seeking to appoint a Professor of Civil Engineering to undertake a leading role in carrying out research of internationally leading quality, through rapid development of a substantial research group.

As one of the largest integrated engineering departments in the UK, the School of Engineering supports a unique and outstanding interdisciplinary research environment spanning civil, chemical, mechanical, systems, electrical and electronic engineering. Ranked 4th in the UK in REF 2014 among integrated departments we are now looking to further strengthen our research activities in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The successful candidate will lead major collaborative research activity with other institutions or bodies to bring significant benefit to the University's national and international standing. Teaching and leading the development, management and delivery of courses within civil and environmental engineering, including those at undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development level will also be a key part of this role. The successful candidate will engage in professional development in relation to teaching, learning and assessment, related to academic, institutional and/or other professional practices and will contribute leadership to other activities (including administration) that will influence and shape outputs within the School of Engineering, the Faculty of Science and the University.

The post holder will have a relevant honours degree or equivalent and hold a PhD level qualification or equivalent in an associated field. Substantial experience of research, teaching and administration in a major university or equivalent is also an essential, as is an outstanding record of achievement and leadership in research of international leading standing. Evidence of potential to promote, develop and lead the broad discipline of civil and environmental engineering within the context of a large integrated School of Engineering would be an advantage.

We welcome applications from candidates whose research is in the field of resilience. Applications from female candidates and those from a minority ethnic background are also particularly welcome as these groups are currently underrepresented within the School of Engineering.

The University aims to promote work life balance for all employees and the School of Engineering will consider a range of possible flexible working arrangements in order to recruit the best candidate.

For an informal and confidential discussion about this opportunity, please contact Professor Toby Mottram, Discipline Stream Leader for Civil and Environmental Engineering (J.T.Mottram@warwick.ac.uk or tel: 02476 522528).
