Programme Manager – Research

Royal Academy of Engineering

Help us discover the engineers who will make tomorrow’s great discoveries.

Engineering is at the heart of our nation and our future: transforming ideas and materials into global infrastructure, products and services that increase the wealth and health of our economy and society. As the UK’s national academy for engineering, we bring together the discipline’s finest minds to promote excellence and champion innovation.

In this key position, you will manage and develop a range of programmes to identify and support outstanding engineering researchers, whilst collaborating closely with our Head of Research and relevant committees and steering groups. We will look to you to deliver projects on time, within budget and to agreed standards, as you plan and cost activity, identify risks and issues, evaluate processes and outcomes, and track progress and spending against benchmarks.

In particular, you will actively identify experts for selection panels, build relationships with beneficiary communities and regularly update senior management, so you can expect a very high profile. What’s more, you will play an active role in marketing and promoting the scheme, giving you plenty of scope to demonstrate your creativity as well as your impeccable organisational skills.

An experienced project manager and budget holder, you will bring good working knowledge of the UK’s higher education and engineering communities. If you are familiar with grant management and associated electronic systems, so much the better, and a graduate qualification in engineering or science would be very useful. However, it’s your motivation, team-working skills and attention to detail that will matter most – alongside your passion for education and engineering and your determination to make your mark.
