Research Associate/Fellow – Modelling the Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) of Metallics

Salary: £26,495 to £38,833 per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £29,799 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

A position is available for a research associate/fellow to work in conjunction with colleagues in the Schools of Applied Mathematics at the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick on the modelling of metallic materials via inkjet printing. We are particularly interested in modelling the transition from fluid to solid phase, the effect of thermal history on microstructural developments, reactions between deposited materials and substrates and the post deposition behaviour and properties. It is expected that a range of modelling techniques will be needed to fulfil this brief, potentially including both solid and fluid mechanics, mass transport, microstructure development and the kinetics of reactions.

To undertake this work we seek applications from people with appropriate previous modelling experience and a demonstrated aptitude for analysing complex systems and applying novel multiphysics modelling solutions.
