University of Exeter - Graduate Business Partnership

A Press Assistant is required by the Communications and Marketing Service, at the University of Exeter, in Exeter. The role involves maintaining webpages and social media channels, coordinating media releases and producing content for the University website and external press and media. This paid internship is available immediately for 12 months, and is part of the Graduate Business Partnership scheme

The appointee will work closely with other members of the team as well as colleagues from across the University as required to support the management of media relations and the University’s reputational management. The role is required to assist with the overall running of the Press and Media Office, and assist with the general operation of the University press office, but will answer to the Head of Press and assist her in supplying reaction to rolling news stories, helping to write and push out stories, interviewing students and academics and dealing with journalists, as well as tweeting and using social media to support the news operation’s objectives. The appointee will also coordinate media releases with the Press Office team and assist with priority situations, together with managing events which may require logistical arrangements, identifying spokespersons, liaising with Press and Media contacts and senior University staff.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic graduate, with excellent written and oral communication skills, including copywriting, and editing for different audiences. Applicants will also have the ability to work effectively under pressure and to deadlines, have knowledge of popular social media platforms and news outlets used by students, and be proficient in using these platforms.  In addition to this applicants should be good at networking and be able to develop contacts, have good planning skills, and have good IT skills including MS ‘Office’.
