Durham University - Department of Physics

Contract Type: Full Time & Fixed Term (3 Years)

Closing Date: 26 October 2017 (Midday)

This is an exciting opportunity for the post holder to assist in the support of the IT requirements of a research institute which is at the forefront of particle physics research both in the UK and worldwide. The post provides a unique opportunity to share responsibility for the IT needs of the institute while retaining a hands-on approach to work across the IT field. In addition, the post holder will be jointly responsible for representing Durham externally as part of Scotgrid and GridPP to ensure the integration of IPPP’s HPC cluster for use by particle physics researchers working on the LHC around the globe.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced IT professional to support and coordinate the IT needs of the Institute of Particle Physics Phenomenology (IPPP), based at Durham University’s Science Site.

This is a key position and we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed IT professional to take on this role in a world-class research institute with 85 members.

We are looking for an experienced systems manager in a relevant discipline who has experience of Linux administration in a networked environment.

The post holder will be part of a small team that takes responsibility for ensuring that the IT infrastructure at the IPPP is fully aligned with the needs of the particle physics researchers, while taking a hands-on approach to work across the IT field.
