Data Scientist (Knowledge Exchange Affiliate)

Permanent or length of contract: 18 months

We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious individual to develop a predictive modelling tool that will forecast trends in behaviors’ to enable service providers to develop appropriate service strategies.

The post holder will have high level computing skills, preferably with a knowledge of programming in ‘R’ and Python (open source) and SQL; advanced statistics techniques, data warehousing, data mining and data analytics (together with hands on experience of data mining toolkits such as ‘SAS Enterprise Miner, SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Basic Programming).; database operation and web application development.

This project hopes to capitalize on the data collected by using methods from social norms theory and data mining to develop a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of interventions using quantitative and qualitative data drawn from a variety of sources. In addition, working in a commercial company in close contact with other staff, the Associate will gain experience of being a key player within the growth of the business. The successful candidate will undertake a 18 month collaborative project between Upturn Enterprise Ltd and the University of Salford (School of Computing, Science & Engineering). Based in Oldham (OL8), you will be supported by the staff from the company and the academic team from the University of Salford whilst undertaking scientific research work. The post holder from their involvement in this programme will also gain a deeper understanding of commercial project management, finance, business relations and marketing strategies. They will also benefit from a Personal Development Budget of £1,500 and will have the opportunity to register free of charge for a postgraduate research qualification.
