Researcher in The Application of Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) to the Earth and Environmental Sciences.

The School of GeoSciences is currently seeking a Researcher to support the Natural Environment Research Council’s (NERC) Ion Microprobe Facility and to pursue independent, or collaborative research that falls within the School’s research profile.

The Ion Microprobe Facility forms part of NERC’s National Capability portfolio, providing access to instrumentation to any UK scientist whose research falls under NERC’s area of interest.

The candidate should have a PhD in a relevant science discipline and experience of SIMS instrumentation, and the application of SIMS to the Earth and Environmental Sciences. The candidate will develop, or have, a detailed and expert knowledge of the hardware, software and analytical operation of the SIMS instruments and in their maintenance and repair. They will also develop and secure funding streams for their own or collaborative research programmes that enhance the NERC Ion Microprobe Facility and the School’s research profile. 

This post is full time 35 hrs per week. The pattern of working hours will vary according to the demands of the work but some evening and weekend work will be required.

Interview are likely to take place in week commencing 27th November 2017.
