Research Associate

University of Sheffield - Biomedical Science

Contract Type: Fixed term with an immediate start date and an end date of 16th July 2020
Faculty: Faculty of Science
Location: Western Bank, Sheffield

Summary:

Working in the newly refurbished laboratory of Prof. Walter Marcotti, you will be responsible for undertaking independent research (funded by a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award) aimed at elucidating signal processing in the auditory system. The successful candidate will work on the experimental objectives of Prof. Marcotti’s research project aimed to analyse and quantify how the development of the auditory system is controlled (from the sensory receptor up to the brainstem) in several mammalian models.

The appointee must be able to contribute significantly to the ongoing research in Prof. Marcotti's laboratory by designing, developing and performing experiments, data analysis and disseminating the findings by writing papers and abstracts and by presenting work at conferences and seminars. This research will require excellent skills in patch clamp electrophysiology from mammalian brain slice. An ability to work in a team is essential. The successful candidate will be required to work in collaboration with other PDRAs and PhD students in the laboratory, participating in these studies, but will report directly to Prof. Marcotti.

You will have a good honours degree and a PhD in a relevant field (or equivalent experience). You will have experience in patch clamp electrophysiology, data analysis and mammalian genetics.
