PhD Studentship on the ATLAS Experiment

University of Sussex

http://www.sussex.ac.uk/epp/

A fully funded PhD studentship is available to join the Sussex team working on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The student will work under the main supervision of Prof Antonella De Santo, who is also the Sussex ATLAS team leader.

The project is to work on the search for Supersymmetry (SUSY) using ATLAS Run-2 data, focusing on multileptonic SUSY signals, and to contribute to the design of future physics analyses in view of the high-luminosity Large Hadron Collider upgrade. The student will also spend a fraction of their time on technical tasks that are well aligned with Sussex’s institutional responsibility on the ATLAS trigger, also in view of future trigger upgrades, and participate in ATLAS experimental operations.

Funding is available to UK and EU nationals for a September 2018 start.  Funded studentships cover a tax-free bursary (£14,553 per annum in 2017/18) and home/EU fees for 3.5 years. Additional financial support is provided to cover short-term and long-term travel. Interviews of shortlisted candidates will be held in February and March. There are also funding opportunities for non-EU students to work on projects in our group through a China Scholarship Council/Sussex joint scholarship (open to Chinese nationals) and the Sussex Chancellor’s International Research Scholarship (open to any nationality).

For more details about the project, please contact Prof. De Santo: A.De-Santo@sussex.ac.uk).

For practical questions about applications and/or eligibility for funding, please contact Rebecca Foster at: mpsresearchsupport@sussex.ac.uk

For academic questions please contact the coordinator of EPP PhD admissions, Dr. W. Clark Griffith: W.C.Griffith@sussex.ac.uk
