Specialist Support Tutor

Following the successful implementation of our DSA-QAG registered Specialist 1-1 Study Skills Service, we are recruiting an additional in-house Specialist Support Tutor to meet increasing demands for study skills support for students with Dyslexia/SpLD. This is a permanent, semester time position wherein the post holder will be required to work 18.25 hours per week for 30 weeks within the Directorate of Academic and Student Affairs.

You will be responsible for:

  • teaching a range of study skills and learning strategies to students with dyslexia/SpLD
  • actively and collaboratively working with colleagues including reviewing service provision and planning for improvement
  • reading and interpreting diagnostic assessment reports
  • promoting the use of assistive technology
  • undertaking initial dyslexia/SpLD screening
  • maintaining electronic systems and keeping accurate and auditable student records
  • networking both within and outside the University, including to develop own knowledge promote equality, diversity and inclusion
  • design and deliver awareness training to academic staff and others as appropriate.

You should have:

  • a degree level qualification or equivalent
  • a certificate in Dyslexia/SpLD
  • experience of delivering study skills tuition in post 16 sector
  • demonstrable experience in the use of Assistive Technology and sound IT skills
  • the ability to carry out pre-assessment screening
  • demonstrable commitment to equal opportunities
  • a flexible approach to working hours to meet fluctuating demands including early evenings and occasional w/e open days and registration sessions.
