Chair in Molecular Medicine

We wish to appoint to this senior position a candidate working in an area of molecular medicine with a focus on cancer.  Applicants are sought with excellent scientific credentials in laboratory, health services or health economics research as applied to cancer.  The appointee will bring skills and experience that will build on our existing research strengths.

Funded by a generous donation from Friends of Anchor (, the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian, we are investing in academic and research staff and postgraduate students who together will make a step change in the research environment at Aberdeen.

You should have a strong academic track record who will establish a programme of excellence in Molecular cancer research, attract a portfolio of external research grants, deliver high quality publications, build a world class research team and create a vibrant environment for research and teaching.  They will also make partnerships with new appointments in Oncology and with existing staff who work in areas related to cancer research.

In view of the School’s international expertise in health services research and health economics an interest in these areas would also be considered.

The successful applicant will have an international profile in Molecular cancer research. You will have already a proven track record in obtaining research funding from charities, research councils, government funding or the pharmaceutical industry, and high impact publications.

A contribution to the teaching portfolio within the School is required and candidates should demonstrate excellence in education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 

Salary will be at the appropriate point of the Professorial salary scale with placement according to qualifications and experience.
