Purpose and Main Duties
Recognised as a world-class research and teaching institution, a vibrant centre of academic engagement and excellence and London’s only specialist provider of evening higher education, we are seeking an Executive Dean for our School of Law.

This opportunity comes at a very exciting time for the College as we approach our 200th anniversary in 2023; we are looking for somebody who will contribute to developing and delivering our strategic ambitions at School and College level.

You will be an experienced academic leader with the vision, drive and capability to develop and implement the School’s strategic plans and foster an academic environment which encourages productivity and creativity; and strives for excellence in learning and teaching, research and scholarship, enterprise and innovation.

With a substantial track record of academic achievement in a discipline relevant to the School and a good understanding of the strategic issues facing Higher Education, you will have sound management experience and the ability to lead and manage change. Cross School collaboration is key to the role, as is the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues.

5 Year Fixed Term Contract and an Underlying Non-time Limited Professorial Contract.

Salary: Competitive by negotiation.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1 FTE) and the successful candidate will hold a professorial appointment with the College. The appointment to Executive Dean is initially fixed term for a period of 5 years with the possibility of extension for subsequent terms. The initial salary is negotiable and will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. Birkbeck also provides a generous defined benefit pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and other great benefits.
