Health and Safety Advisor

University of Hull - Health and Safety Services

The University has ambitious plans for the future, integral to which is the objective of making the University a healthy and safe place to work, study, and visit. The Health and Safety Service is vital to achieving this aim across the University, by challenging the University to ensure it is not only complying with legislative standards, but striving to be leading and achieving best practice.

The service offers a range of Health and Safety services across all of the University’s Faculties, Schools, Departments, and Directorates; this provides a diverse range of industry groups and activities for a safety professional to work in.

This job description covers both roles, and the specific allocation of responsibilities will be confirmed annually through the annual review process.

These positions report into the University’s Lead Health and Safety Advisors and ultimately the Director for Health and Safety.

As part of the Health and Safety team you may be required to be on-call on a rota basis, responding to incidents outside of core work hours. An on-call allowance will be paid for any time you are on call.

To be successful in these roles you will have a combination of practical and theoretical experience in Health and Safety either working as an Advisor or through operational exposure. You will be a team player and a good communicator with the ability to motivate, develop, and encourage the commitment of others in order to secure performance. You will also be keen to learn and develop within the role.

To discuss this role informally, please contact Jon Grainger, Interim Director of Health and Safety (telephone: 01482 465785, or email: healthandsafety@hull.ac.uk).

The campus will be the venue for City of Culture events, and its alumni, students, and staff will be personally involved.
