Postdoctoral Researcher in Exercise and Cancer Survivorship

Northumbria University

Working in the well-appointed laboratories of the Department of Sport, Exercise & Rehabilitation at our Newcastle City Campus, and in collaboration with clinical collaborators at the local NHS Hospital Trusts, the appointed person will help to build research capacity and support ongoing research in exercise and cancer survivorship. The remit will be partly to develop new project ideas, undertake pilot/feasibility work, and engage in networking activities and the development of multidisciplinary teams to assess the impact of exercise and lifestyle interventions on key health challenges faced by cancer survivors. The appointed person will also have an important role in collating and interpreting CPET and self-reported physical activity data in a large-scale NIHR-funded multi-center exercise intervention study involving colorectal cancer patients.

You will have a PhD in an exercise or a related science discipline, with experience of conducting human intervention research and/or clinical trials. In particular, knowledge and experience of leading supervised/supported exercise intervention studies and strategies for promoting long-term adherence to physically active lifestyles would be advantageous. In addition, experience of cardiopulmonary exercise testing and methods for measuring physical activity levels in adults and clinical populations would be highly desirable.

We wish to appoint an excellent researcher with well-developed analytical and communication skills who has the ability to work as an integral and co-operative member of our research group. Attention to detail in preparing reports and other materials for progress meetings and in the presentation of study findings is an essential prerequisite.
