Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Bioengineering

University of Canterbury, New Zealand - Department of Mechanical Engineering

Applications are invited for a continuing (tenured) position of Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in our dynamic and growing Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, which is a recognised world-class centre of learning, research and innovation excellence. 

Ideally, applicants would have a strong research record in applied dynamics for bioengineering, but sound research experience in other compatible areas of bio- or biomedical engineering will also be carefully considered, which could include biomechanics, biokinematics, physiological modelling, and bioinstrumentation. 

Experience or specialisation in emerging research areas of bio- or biomedical engineering with promising, innovative outcomes or clinical application experience, are of particular interest to our Department. 

We are seeking candidates who are motivated to develop and maintain a vigorous research programme in their areas of expertise areas and who would relish collaboration with other researchers, research groups, and industrial partners – nationally and internationally. 

To support individual Professional Development and career advancement, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has a number of very active researchers in bioengineering and close collaborations with several local hospitals, the MedTech Centre of Research Excellence and New Zealand and international industry. 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is introducing a teaching program in bioengineering and the successful applicant will be instrumental in the development and presentation of an undergraduate bioengineering design course, as well as other courses in line with their specific area of expertise. 

The Department hosts productive research groups in fluid dynamics, energy systems, materials engineering and design, along with close connections to other engineering departments. Productive collaborations with other universities and research institutes/centres are also encouraged and maintained. 

The Department is particularly keen on applicants who have evidence of academic leadership, demonstrated experience in collaboration with other researchers and industry, and proven excellence in teaching. 

A PhD degree or equivalent is essential for this position
