Associate Professor in Architecture

We are currently creating a new School of Architecture, committed to an innovative model of architectural education, and are seeking to appoint an experienced academic at Associate Professor level.

We are open to making an appointment on a teaching and research or teaching intensive basis and welcome applications where a flexible working pattern or part time/job share is proposed.

The successful applicant will support the development of a new Masters in Architecture programme to complement our research and practice based undergraduate course. The new Masters programme will be launched in September 2020.

We are looking for an individual who has previous experience of developing and delivering studio teaching and a taught course element within an Architecture degree and Masters in an Architecture course. We are expecting this appointment to develop a specialist area of curriculum delivery and to lead in masters level architecture education and in the design studio.

This position will provide an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to the emerging School identity and support the development of a new Masters in Architecture course relating the practice of architecture to our vibrant research culture.

You will have:

  • A broad knowledge of current trends in architecture and the built environment.
  • Demonstrable skills in architecture studio teaching from first year through to final year Masters in architecture.
  • Good working knowledge of the RIBA/ARB validation process.
  • Orientation towards interdisciplinary education.
  • Excellent presentation and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues across the university.
  • A developing track record in research appropriate for the level of appointment (for teaching and research applicants only).
  • Demonstrable evidence of excellence in teaching and/or practice experience appropriate for the level of appointment (Teaching intensive appointments only).
