Engineering Technician in Manufacturing Technology

University of Sheffield - Multidisciplinary Engineering Education

The Faculty of Engineering at The University of Sheffield is one of the biggest and best in the United Kingdom, and is renowned for its excellence in teaching and world class research.

The Diamond is the latest teaching facility in the centre of the city campus. It is home to a team of professional teaching staff and technicians who deliver learning experiences across a wide range of engineering subjects. Our engineering teaching laboratories contain over £10m of industry standard equipment, giving our students unprecedented access to real-life practical and professional engineering skills. This new resource is one of the best equipped teaching facilities in the UK.

We are expanding our activities in the Machine Shop, Workshop and Project Space areas which house a range of advanced manufacturing equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters, as well as standard workshop equipment such as lathes, and milling machines.  These flexible areas aim to give our students the best possible practical learning experience.  We are looking for someone to join a highly skilled team in assisting with practical classes and the delivery of teaching sessions.  You will also work with the team in ensuring that all aspects of laboratory operations run smoothly, from equipment maintenance, housekeeping and purchasing, to record keeping and health and safety activities.

We offer exceptional opportunities to develop your professional skills and knowledge, and a supportive environment in which to explore, develop and deliver world-class learning and teaching. Our teaching is based on practical activities, and even if you don’t consider yourself a professional teacher, if you have the right skills, knowledge and experience, coupled with a desire to develop the next generation of engineers, you could be the perfect fit for our team.

You should have a BTEC Level 4/HNC in or relevant experience in Manufacturing Engineering, with experience of working with machining equipment and be entirely familiar with the health and safety procedures in a workshop environment coupled with an up to date knowledge of the relevant legislation. You should feel confident and comfortable communicating with large groups of people, and have the ability to work well alongside a team.  The ability to work proactively to anticipate and meet customer needs is also essential.

In demonstrating your commitment to your own professional development and training, you will be given a perfect opportunity to enhance your career with one of the top 100 UK organisations.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
