Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Language Learning

University of Bristol - Department of Computer Science

Based in the Computational Neuroscience Unit within the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bristol this is an exciting opportunity to develop and run a study of second language learning.

You will develop and run a controlled and quantitative longitudinal study of second language learning; this study will profile the time course of language learning and should include participant EEG. High quality data analysis will be used to answer the “grand challenge” question: can we distinguish slow and fast language learners? Are there characteristic properties of language processing which are typical of slow and fast language learners? The goal of our research is the study of language in the brain, but this work will also have implications for language education. You will work on the development of custom written language lessons and language tests, will run the study and will perform data analysis and network modelling of EEG data.

You will have a PhD in Computational Neuroscience or a related discipline, will have good experience of programming and will have the interpersonal skills required to run a human study.

This post is offered on a full time, open-ended contract with funding for up to 16 months in the first instance.
