Job overview:

We are seeking a Compliance and Improvement Specialist in the IT Compliance and Security team. This team is essential to the success of UWE Bristol's IT Services and the information technologies it develops and delivers for students, staff, partners and the University as a whole. Our key areas of focus are:

  • Controls (audit, risk and processes)
  • Communications, involvement and reporting (including student involvement, stakeholders and learning & development)
  • Information governance & security (including technical controls, training & awareness, strategy and incident response)
  • Project portfolio management (project portfolio management, IT project management office and project governance).

We work collaboratively with colleagues across the service to ensure university systems, processes and frameworks meet internationally recognised governance and management standards. These help to increase trust in, and value from, our information systems. We do this through improving processes and controls, risk management and audit.

We are responsible for the University's information management and security strategies including design, implementation and management of university-wide policies and technical controls that protect the integrity of UWE systems and information within them. We lead key IT supplier reviews to maximise the benefit of UWE's IT investment and actively contribute to tender processes undertaken by Faculties working with the NHS, MoD and others.

This vacancy will be required to address initiatives around Audit and Risk Management, Supplier Management, Project Governance and ITIL Process Improvements, so experience in any of these areas will be particularly valuable. You will work across the function to ensure standards are upheld and improvements are delivered, so will be relying on your strong interpersonal skills to build these effective relationships. Although you will work largely autonomously to deliver these internal projects and auditing activities, the wider team, including a second specialist role, will be there to support you.

You will have:-

  • A degree qualification or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Relevant technology governance qualification e.g. PRINCE 2 practitioner, certified in governance of IT (CGEIT), Management of Risk (M_o_R)
  • ITIL Foundation or can demonstrate equivalent experience
