Full time starting salary is normally in the range £22,277 to £23,933. With potential progression once in post to £27,705 a year.

The University of Birmingham has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Genomics Technician to join its sequencing facility.

The University of Birmingham has recently made a large strategic investment in next generation sequencing facilities with the College of Medical and Dental Sciences supported by infrastructure awards from the Medical Research Council and the Wolfson Foundation. The laboratory has recently moved into state of the art facilities within the Institute of Biomedical Research complex. This core facility has access to a range of instrumentation as part of the Enabling Technology strategy combining with Next Generation Sequencing NGS facilities across the University.

This role of Genomics Technician is to provide support to the facility based in Medical and Dental Sciences, whilst working collaboratively under the University of Birmingham’s Enabling Technology initiative. The post holder will take part in the delivery of Next Generation Sequencing data with sample and library preparation, and operation of the Illumina™ and other sequencing equipment including automated liquid handling robots.

The successful applicant will hold a degree in Molecular Biology or related subject, an equivalent professional qualification or proven extensive relevant experience. Previous experience of similar laboratory based work is essential, along with customer service and organisational skills, and willingness to work towards professional registration.
