Professor of Social Care (Occupying the Praxis Chair in Social Care)

The School wishes to appoint a Professor of Social Care, co-financed by Praxis Care, to further strengthen its international reputation for excellence in research and education. The post provides a senior/leadership research role within the Centre for Evidence and Social Intervention (CESI).

The successful candidate will be a professionally qualified in either Social Work, Nursing or Clinical Psychology and have a sustained record of publication and research activity at international level; evidence of an ability to attract significant external grant income; and the ability to supervise and attract international postgraduate research students. A full time PhD studentship (fees and maintenance grant) will be linked to this post.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Primary degree and PhD in a subject relevant to Social Care.
  • A professional qualification in either Social Work, Nursing or Clinical Psychology
  • A sustained and distinguished record of publication of internationally excellent research outputs, with demonstrable impact on leading researchers and the research agenda within Social Care.
  • Evidence of major collaborative research activities that seek to develop and test effective interventions in at least two or more of the areas listed in the Job Summary.
  • Sustained record of playing a leading role in successful bids for competitive, peer-reviewed national or international grants or other awards, as appropriate to Social care.
  • Evidence of having sustained, successful research supervision as primary supervisor, normally at PhD level.
  • Proven ability to deliver high quality UG and PG teaching that complements and enhances the School’s teaching activities.
  • Experience of curriculum development.
  • Teaching will not exceed 25% of the post’s time including the actual time taken to mark essays, etc.
  • Evidence of strategic academic leadership in research, programme development, teaching and management.
  • A clear vision on future research and development plans and how they would benefit the School and discipline.
  • Evidence of ability to strengthen the reputation of Social Care, Social Work and the School’s national and international networks.
