About the role

Wellcome Collection is a free museum and library exploring health and humanity. We are looking for an experienced Exhibitions Project Manager to join our Exhibitions team to help redevelop and redesign one of Wellcome Collection’s permanent displays, ‘Medicine Now’. Scheduled to relaunch in early September 2019, this new display will explore the latest developments in medical science and their social, ethical and cultural implications.

We are looking for an experienced, organised and creative Exhibitions Project Manager who is highly familiar with the requirements, processes and procedures of working on permanent and temporary museum projects. The role will include:

  • Creating and managing complex budgets, schedules and contracts
  • Leading tendering processes and following procurement guidelines
  • Working with designers, fabricators and contemporary artists, as well as with loaned historic collections and artefacts.

You must be self-reliant and have experience of leading large project groups and working with key partners and external stakeholders.

Experience & Skills

About you

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Significant experience of organising the installation of large-scale permanent and/or temporary exhibitions within a museum or gallery, including establishing and coordinating build and installation schedules
  • Experience of planning and administering multiple aspects of complicated projects simultaneously
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and health and safety issues relating to the construction and installation of exhibitions
  • Experience of accessible and inclusive design relating to public access to exhibitions
  • Experience of contracting and working with exhibition designers
  • An interest in the history of art, in the history of science and medicine, and in contemporary developments in these fields
  • A good understanding of exhibition audio-visual requirements
  • Experience of working with artists on the production of newly commissioned work
  • Good diplomatic and negotiation skills when working with different contractors simultaneously
  • Proven skills in handling budgets, processing financial material, and assessing and ensuring value for money from contractors.

Education & Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will also need a relevant degree or equivalent experience.
