Aston Medical School is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate for a new Regenerative Medicine Centre, a key research theme within Aston Medical Research Institute (AMRI). The central aim of this postdoctoral project is to investigate the molecular mechanisms, to develop and establish efficient methods in the induction of functional hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), and in the differentiation of the HSC to different blood lineage cells.

A PhD degree in cell and molecular biology (or equivalent) is essential. The candidate will focus on HSC induction from both human embryonic stem (ES) cells and iPSC, and the following colony forming and their detection. Laboratory experiences with iPSC culture, HSC induction, colony forming units assay, fluorescence flow cytometry, MACS, immunocy to chemistry, molecular cloning and viral package would be desirable. A good level of knowledge and research experience in iPSC reprogramming and hematopoiesis are preferred. In addition, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate independent, critical and innovative thinking.
