Postdoctoral Research Associate

University of York - Department of Politics

The University of York has recently been awarded a £6.6 million RCUK GCRF Collective Fund ‘Growing Capability’ Award Thanzi la Onse (Health of All), with partners in the UK, Malawi and Uganda, which aims to support health policy and health care resource allocation decisions in sub-Saharan Africa. The Department of Politics leads the governance strand of this project and its contribution to the project reflects its strengths in international development, global health and region-building.

The Department of Politics is looking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate who will conduct individual and collaborative research, with duties to include: data gathering, analysis and interpretation of research data, use of appropriate research techniques and methods, and writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations and public engagement and outreach activities. You will develop and initiate collaborative working internally and externally, duties to include: collaboration with colleagues as required; participation in and identification of external networks in order to share information and identify potential opportunities for collaboration and possible sources of funding.

You will have a completed PhD or one submitted and awaiting examination in development politics, along with the ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting and an interest in stakeholder engagement. You will have experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research, writing up research work for publication and would ideally also have a strong understanding of regionalism, regionalization and development debates, the politics and governance of sub-Saharan Africa and/or health and development. The appointee will be required to travel to Malawi and Uganda.

The post is available for 2 years in the first instance, from 1 February 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be made at Grade 6, with salary in the range of £31,604 - £38,832.
