Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Stress Corrosion Cracking Mechanisms - EBSD and TKD

The role of the successful applicant will be to conduct experimental research in characterisation of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in materials for fission reactors (e.g. PWRs). He/she will study the effect of alloy composition on crack propagation mechanisms on selected austenitic alloys through characterisation of the crack tip area by 3D EDX, EBSD (2D and 3D) and TKD. The EBSD/TKD data analysis required for high-resolution strain mapping will be developed and optimised. The research is based in Oxford, but will be performed within a large, multi-faceted collaborative project involving Oxford and Manchester universities, and two external partners: EDF (France) and INSS (Japan). The post is funded for up to 3 years by EPSRC.

You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in materials science or a related field and possess specialist knowledge, experience and skills related to the field of strain mapping by electron diffraction, including EBSD and/or TKD. Experience on corrosion, fracture analysis and modelling would be advantageous.
