The Post

The Language Assistant will be expected to be a native Spanish speaker with extensive teaching experience in Spanish as a second language at university level. The successful candidate will work closely with the Spanish Language Coordinator,  delivering Spanish oral classes at all levels and written Spanish grammar classes to students on Years One and Two, as well as assisting staff with oral exams at all levels of undergraduate study. There may also be the opportunity to contribute to teaching at postgraduate level.

Description of Duties

  • Developing, delivering and coordinating classes at all levels of undergraduate teaching, with a particular focus on oral classes;
  • Preparing relevant and up-to-date materials for use in teaching that engage with topics
    being taught across the Spanish curriculum, as well as reflecting current developments in language learning;
  • Preparation of module handbooks;
  • Providing support for academic staff and students; working in collaboration with the language teaching team;
  • Providing a frontline trouble-shooting service for students and academic staff;
  • Providing specialist lab support to the undergraduate students;
  • Assisting Language Coordinators with installation and setting up of new language software;
  • Conducting and assessing undergraduate group oral examination in Years 1 and 2;
  • Conducting and assessing Honours-level oral examinations;
  • Providing wr itten feedback to students on their performance in oral and written assessment;
  • Direct involvement in assessment design, delivery and feedback;
  • Act as module co-ordinators for the beginners language stream modules;
  • Carrying out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post and its grading as requested by the line manager.
