Research Assistant

University of Kent - School of Engineering and Digital Arts

The post is part of a European development fund INTERREG VA project entitled “Flexible smart surfaces for augmented indoor communications (SURFAS)” and is in collaboration with the University of Surrey and Intrinsiq Materials Ltd in the UK and ESIGELEC (Embedded Electronic Systems Research Institute) and Greensystech in France.

The project will look at the use of smart surfaces – electromagnetic structures that can control the angle and phase of indoor communication signals to improve coverage.

The successful candidate will join the team at the University of Kent and will be primarily concerned with the design of the smart surfaces.

As a Research Assistant you will:

  • Undertake the role of researcher and to seek to meet the project objectives of the research project agreed with the principal investigators.
  • Liaise and collaborate with industrial and academic partners on the project, as necessary.
  • Manage your own research and administrative activities, with guidance if required and attend, contribute to relevant meetings.

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • A Good honours degree in Electronic Engineering or Physics.
  • Experience in RF, Microwave and antenna engineering and experience in electromagnetic simulation.
  • The ability to work with colleagues in partner institutions and the ability to work in a team and to work towards project aims and objectives, and their associated deadlines.
