The salary will be paid at Grade 6, £33,518 - £39,992 per annum plus £2,923 London Weighting Allowance per annum.

This post will be Fixed Term for 3 years

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics to work on a project investigating the role of imprinted genes in adipose tissue in early life and pregnancy. The project will utilise an existing animal model of adipose fate mapping to investigate novel roles for imprinted genes in adipogenesis. You will drive research in this exciting new area that combines classical metabolic physiology with epigenetic gene control, by refining existing and developing new methodologies for the discovery of novel mechanisms of body axis regulation. The successful applicant will be part of the research team of Dr. Marika Charalambous, to whom informal enquiries should be addressed. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the ability to work independently and will have solid expertise in in vivo physiology and developmental biology.

Applicants must hold a PhD (or be awaiting the award of their PhD) in a biomedical discipline relevant to the project.

Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have recently submitted or passed their viva and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. Should the successful candidate be awaiting the award of his or her PhD, the appointment will be made at Grade 5, point 30 (currently £32,548 per annum) with the title of Research Assistant until confirmation of the award of their PhD has been received. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6, spine point 31 (currently £33,518 per annum).
