Senior Research Associate

University of East Anglia - School of Chemistry

UEA has some of the most innovative and highly regarded centres for research in the UK. Applications are invited for the post of Senior Research Associate to undertake research under the supervision of Professor Steve Meech in order to study Ultrafast Spectroscopy which is funded through an EPSRC Research Grant.

The project will involve the management of a home built FSRS spectrometer and associated ultrafast apparatus and its application to problems in biophysics and molecular dynamics. This apparatus will be applied in particular to probe real time dynamics in photoactive proteins, prepared by our collaborator Peter Tonge (Stony Brook University).

The successful applicant will join the Ultrafast Laser Laboratory in the School of Chemistry at the University of East Anglia. The laboratory houses a 1-10 kHz amplified laser pumping ultrafast or narrowband OPAs, currently employed for FSRS, transient absorption and 2D electronic spectroscopy. This research program also makes use of access to central laser facility experiments at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory for transient IR spectroscopy. The facilities at UEA are complemented by apparatus for ultra-fluorescence up-conversion.

The research will be based in the school of Chemistry at the University of East Anglia. The post will require occasional attendance for 1-2 week periods at the Central Laser Facility near Oxford.

You must have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics or a related discipline (or equivalent qualification) and be able to fulfil all essential elements set out in the person specification.

This is a full time position available from 1 March 2018 for a fixed term period of 25 months, or until 28 March 2020.

The University is a Bronze Athena Swan Award holder, currently working towards Silver
