Senior Technical Assistant

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Technical Assistant to support the Technical Services Teams in delivery of Hazardous Waste processing, Media and Glassware services. This role will be spread across the services as work dictates to provide a high quality service for the scientific laboratories.

You will be able to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to the changing demands of the Scientists and supervise and train other technical assistants in routine procedures where required.

The role will involve the collection, segregating and rendering safe of hazardous laboratory waste, the manufacture and delivery of batch media including QA testing and the processing and sterilization of laboratory glassware and portering of other items on occasions.

Essential Skills:

  • Previous laboratory experience in a relevant field
  • Basic literacy and numeracy
  • Good communication skills
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Good organisational skills - able to organise own workload efficiently
  • Basic supervisory skills
  • Basic computer literacy

Ideal Skills:

  • Experience of similar service duties
  • Willingness and aptitude to learn and keep up to date with guidance and regulation
  • Ability to undertake basic trouble shooting and solve simple problems
  • Good understanding of principles of sterilization and decontamination
