Purpose and Main Duties

Birkbeck, University of London seeks a Lecturer in Corporate Governance and Business Ethics in the Department of Management within the School of Business, Economics and Informatics. The School brings together the College’s business-facing departments and has expanded student numbers by over 70 per cent since its founding in 2009. The Department of Management, one of four departments within the School, is the largest department in the College, with around 1,750 full-time equivalent students and over 50 staff members.

It has a strong research reputation in a number of areas, including corporate governance, international business, innovation management and entrepreneurship, HRM, sport management, finance and accounting, and marketing. The Corporate Governance Subject Group hosts an impactful research centre, the London Centre for Corporate Governance and Ethics, and MSc programmes in Corporate Governance and Business Ethics and in Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability.

The Department has been at the forefront of innovation and has a rich mix of academic offerings, including a newly-launched MBA programme (in collaboration with Central Saint Martins). The Department is looking to increase its talent pool and would particularly encourage applications from prospective colleagues seeking a first class environment for an excellent academic career.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD or be very close to completing one. They should be able to demonstrate significant research achievements commensurate with their career stage, outline clear plans for future research, contribute to postgraduate, undergraduate and post-experience programmes, and undertake administrative duties as may be directed by the Head of Department.

Applications are welcome from specialists in Corporative Governance, Business Ethics, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability or related areas; but candidates from wider Business and Management disciplines who have compelling CVs may also apply.

Further Information

Salary: Grade 7/8 of the College's London Pay Scale which is Lecturer A (Grade 7) - £37,169 rising to £42,483 per annum or Lecturer B (Grade 8) - £43,642 per annum rising to £51,372 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 36 months. Birkbeck also provides a generous defined benefit pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and other great benefits.
