Oxford University is world renowned for the quality and diversity of its teaching and research. The Public Affairs Directorate (PAD) plays a significant role in presenting the University's activities to as wide an audience as possible. The Design and Publications department is responsible for the production of University publications (paper and web), including the University of Oxford Gazette, Blueprint (the University's internal staff magazine), and the annual University Calendar.

As Deputy Editor of the Gazette, your role is to work with and deputise for the Editor to ensure that the Gazette is published in print and online each week and to assist with the production of various other University publications. This involves communicating by email and occasionally phone with a wide variety of people, including departments and faculties, academic and administrative staff, OUP (Oxuniprint) staff and members of the public.

You will have: experience of, or an interest in, publishing procedures; a good eye for detail; an excellent standard of written English; experience of copy-editing and proof-reading quickly and to a professional standard within a defined house style; knowledge of standard marks and methods in copy-editing and proof-reading; and excellent computer skills. You will need to be well organised and flexible, and able to work without supervision and under pressure. Knowledge of web publishing and InDesign would be advantageous.

This is a part-time (60% FTE), fixed-term adoption cover post and is anticipated to be for a period of 10 months from January 2018. This post reports to the Editor of the Gazette.
