Postdoctoral Research Associate/ Fellow (Circular Economy)

Postdoctoral Research Associate: £26,495 to £33,518 or Postdoctoral Research Fellow: £34,520 to £42,418 depending upon experience.

The Business School wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate/ Fellow to support the work of Prof Peter Hopkinson. This EPSRC grant funded post on the "REBUILD: REgenerative BUILDings and products for a circular economy" project is available immediately in the first instance until 31st January 2020, with a possibility of extension of up to 1 year,  dependent on funding. The post will be based in Cornwall on the Penryn campus.

For the successful applicant this is an outstanding opportunity to undertake ground breaking and ambitious research on the circular economy and the recovery and re-use of building products within new commercial and housing construction projects and systems. The main tasks will be data collection, analysis and visualisation on building product stocks and flows within end of service life buildings and model the local and regional economic, environmental and social outcomes from the remanufacture and re-use of product within new modular buildings designed for disassembly and future deconstruction.

The post requires skills and experience in data collection, analysis and mapping material stocks and flows and systems modelling. Prior experience with GIS and LCA is desirable.  A track record of high quality publication and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with senior industrial stakeholders is essential. The project lead is open to considering applications from candidates with a different research backgrounds and experiences, and is willing to consider a range of translatable expertise. The successful candidate will join a major leading academic grouping based at the new Centre for Circular Economy at Exeter University Penryn Campus.

About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies. Given the nature of the role, there is opportunity for scope and requirements to be adapted dependent on whether appointment is at Research Associate or Research Fellow level, and applicants are very welcome to contact Prof Hopkinson in advance of submitting an application to discuss potential fit with the project.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion for Postdoctoral Research Associate level) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will possess skills and experience in data collection, analysis and mapping material stocks and flows and systems modelling. Additionally, at Postdoctoral Research Fellow level the candidate will be a nationally recognised authority in subjects allied to economic and/or materials modelling and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. Prior experience with GIS and LCA is desirable. A track record of high quality publication and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with senior industrial stakeholders is essential. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
