Research Fellow in Epigenetics

The Respiratory Genetics group invites applications for a 48-month postdoctoral position funded by the National Institutes of Health focusing on the role of epigenetics, in particular DNA methylation, in determining the gender associated changes in asthma incidence across puberty.

The successful applicant will be engaged in the evaluation and development of methods for analysing epigenetic data and their change over time. Strong candidates will have a record of academic achievement including a background or strong interest in biological science, bioinformatics or computational science, a relevant postgraduate degree, and evidence of independent research. Direct experience of DNA methylation analysis, statistical skills and experience of working with large-scale methylation data are desirable. Skills in computing and bioinformatics, as well as the handling of large-scale data sets, and an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment would be an advantage.

The Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine theme is part of the Human Development and Health (HDH) Academic Unit, part of the Faculty of Medicine and located at Southampton University Hospital site. The appointee will benefit from interaction with the co-located Genomic Informatics group and other groups within HDH undertaking a range of genomic studies in both humans and animal models. In addition the appointee will work closely with research project partners in the University of Bristol, and the University of Memphis, USA.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
