Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Stromal Immunology

University of Aberdeen - School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition - Institute of Medical Sciences

We are seeking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic individual with research expertise in stromal cell-immune cell interactions, molecular signalling and cytokine biology in the context of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as arthritis. The successful candidate will align their research activities with the work in the Arthritis & Regenerative Medicine Group led by Professor Cosimo De Bari.

The Arthritis & Regenerative Medicine Laboratory is investigating the roles that mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) play in joint health and diseases, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The lab has established a unique set of tools and models to study the endogenous MSCs in the joint. Recent work has demonstrated the presence of distinct MSC niches in the knee joint synovium (Arthritis Rheum 2011), and has identified a specialised MSC population with the ability to maintain and repair joint tissues including the cartilage (Nature Commun 2017).

The successful candidate will be based within the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/ims/), where we have internationally recognised strengths through research in arthritis, regenerative and translational medicine, fungal immunology, medicinal chemistry, cell and developmental biology, systems biology and translational neuroscience.

Candidates must have a PhD in a medical or biological science with a proven ability to attract funding and publish papers in high quality journals. Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level including research student supervision is required.

For an appointment made at Senior Lecturer level salary will be paid at the appropriate point on Grade 8 (£50,618 - £56,950 per annum).
