University of Southampton - MLE (Managed Learning Environments) Team

iSolutions is the largest group within Professional Services at the University of Southampton and is responsible for innovating, supporting and delivering technology and computing services. 

The University seeks a Managed Learning Support Specialist who is enthusiastic about the use of technology in learning and teaching, to assist academic staff in the use of learning systems. Working in our MLE (Managed Learning Environments) Team you will provide specialist technical assistance for Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) systems development in support of academic activities in particular services based on WordPress and assist in their deployment.

The role of specialist includes:

  • Providing expert advice and guidance on the best use of the VLE (WordPress and Blackboard) and other learning technologies.
  • Providing user support to academic colleagues for the VLE and learning technologies. 
  • Promoting and facilitating the use of computer-based examinations. 
  • Providing training and knowledge transfer to academic colleagues. 

The successful candidate will:

  • Have specialist knowledge and understanding of WordPress, MySQL and PHP. 
  • Be self-motivated and capable of working independently or in a team.
  • Have significant experience of development for VLE.
  • Awareness of accessibility and mobile-friendly design guidelines.
  • Experience of working in Higher Educations is desirable, but not essential.
