Professor of War and Conflict Studies

University of Reading - Department of Politics and International Relations

We are seeking to appoint a Professor of War and Conflict Studies, to further strengthen our research profile in this area, and lead our engagement with defence and security actors. The successful candidate will be an outstanding scholar and excellent teacher, who can provide leadership in research, grant applications, and outreach. The successful candidate will enhance the department’s existing relationship with the British military in both teaching and research activities, and play a central role in our Ways of War Centre.

The department appreciates that war and conflict can be studied from different perspectives, and thus welcomes excellent candidates with backgrounds in International Relations, War Studies, International Security, Conflict Studies, Strategic Studies, Organisational Behaviour, Public Policy, Political Psychology and related disciplines.

This is an exciting time to join the department. Politics and International Relations is ranked among the top 10 politics departments in the UK by research intensity in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). We are a dynamic department with internationally recognised strength in Conflict, Security, and Strategy; International Relations; Applied Political Theory; Comparative Politics, and Public Policy Analysis.

We are a partner in the £14 million Army Higher Education Pathway project to design and deliver online BSc and MSc teaching to approximately 500 cadets per year from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and the Defence Academy at Shrivenham.
