Research Fellow

University of Birmingham

The 2016 Government Autumn Statement announced a £4.7bn National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF) to invest in science, research and innovation over the next four years, with a major strand of this investment targeted at supporting the high-skilled research talent necessary for a growing, innovative economy. This included the Chancellor announcing £210 million for new fellowships for early and mid-career researchers.

From this new investment, the MRC has recently been awarded £37.5 million for new fellowships starting in 2017/18, some of which will align with the ‘Health Data Research UK’ (HDRUK) infrastructure, that the MRC (in collaboration with partner funders) is currently instating. HDR UK’s vision is to create a new type of distributed research Institute in the digital age that will be world-leading in the development and application of new mathematical, statistical and computational approaches for biomedical discovery and decision making in health care.
