Senior Research Application Programmer

Queen Mary University of London - Barts Cancer Institute

Ref: QMUL12913

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is an internationally recognised, comprehensive cancer centre. BCI, as part of the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, is in the top 10 multi-faculty research institutions (REF 2014). The Joint Research Management Office (JRMO) provides professional specialised support to both Queen Mary University of London and Barts Health NHS Trust for all research activities, including IT support.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Application Programmer, based within the BCI but working closely with the JRMO, who will be responsible for leading on and developing clinical trial applications to the highest standards as required by the Head of Research Computing.

The successful individual will have extensive knowledge of database design and Java programming, using Oracle. Experience in developing database solutions that contribute to clinical trial programming objectives is essential, as is an understanding of data protection and security and how these apply to clinical trials.

Either a degree in computer science, or substantial relevant experience in similarly demanding work roles, is essential. Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice and knowledge of MHRA regulations will be beneficial. The Senior Research Application Programmer will be responsible for managing a small team of application developers, and experience in staff management is therefore desirable.

This is a full-time post, fixed term for 24 months. Starting salary will be in the range £36,677 - £43,152 per annum including London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and defined benefit pension scheme.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme. The BCI requires applicants to provide all certificates at interview to confirm their qualifications (as specified in the Job Description).

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Jonathan Croft at j.croft@qmul.ac.uk.

Details about the Institute can be found at https://www.bci.qmul.ac.uk
